The Clayton County Board of Education will hold two public hearings over the next week on its proposed fiscal year 2017 budget which call for pay raises and other incentives.
The school board is considering raising its fiscal year 2017 general operations budget by almost $30 million - most of which will go toward pay raises and other incentives.
The FY 2016 budget grew to about $426.05 million after mid-year adjustments and changes that included pay raises and incentives for recruitment and retention.
The board anticipates its retention and recruitment efforts in 2017, combined with other incentives, will cost as much as $53.4 million.
The public hearings will be Thursday and Monday at 6 p.m. in the board room of The Administrative Complex, 1058 Fifth Ave. in Jonesboro.
The school board expects to adopt a final budget at its May 2 meeting.
