After terminating five employees Thursday and placing a sixth on administrative leave, the commissioner of Atlanta’s Office of Buildings said he is working to strengthen the department.

Tim Keane, who was hired last summer in the midst of an ongoing probe into issues regarding the office, said in a statement that he has been working “diligently” to fix the problems uncovered by a law department investigation. The investigation uncovered violations of the city’s ethical rules and and resulted in criminal charges for one former employee.
