Georgia Piedmont Technical College is scheduled Wednesday afternoon to unveil a manufacturing center on its Newton County campus.
The center has an electronics and wiring lab, a motor control lab for students interesting in learning how to use transformers, and a mechanical lab where students will learn about welding and machine tooling.
The center is working with Gov. Nathan Deal’s effort to encourage young Georgians to pursue jobs in five key sectors that are experiencing workforce shortages as older workers retire. Those areas are manufacturing, construction, telecommunications, energy and logistics.
The college has several campuses, with its main location in DeKalb County.
