Thirty-eight students from Gwinnett's Collins Hill High School have been recognized for their high scores on the National German Exam. Students who scored above 85 percent on the exam will be honored at a ceremony at the German Embassy in Atlanta. Several students at school received special recognition. Garrett Helmick received a perfect score on the National German III exam and is ranked first in the state. Allie Burg scored a 99 percent on the German II exam and is also ranked first in the state. Aaron Krask and Jennifer Shaffer placed fourth and fifth respectively on the German IV exam.

Chamblee Charter High School students Monica Agrawal and Andrew Tsao tied as DeKalb school district winners at the STAR student teacher recognition luncheon. They will each receive a $1,000 scholarship from the Alonzo McDonald Foundation. The students and teachers Zareen Hagan and Adrienne Keathley now advance to the state competition.

Mike Wang of Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science, and Technology and Anchen Yao of Parkview High School are semifinalists for the U.S. Physics team. The Gwinnett students competed with 4,500 students trying to solve a Fnet=ma physics problem. Based on those scores, 406 students were named semifinalists, including a total of five from Georgia. The students will take a test this month to determine if they are among the 20 members selected for U.S. team. Those team members will take part in a training camp in May to determine the five students and one alternate who will represent the United States at the International Physics Olympiad in Denmark this summer.

Gwinnett's Mountain View High School WorldQuest team placed first in state competition and earned a trip to nationals in Washington, D.C. in April 26-28 through the World Affairs Council of Atlanta. WorldQuest is an academic competition of 10 categories of global and temporal importance in social studies.

The McNair Middle School Colts debate team won second place at the Young Litigators 4th Annual Oral Argument Competition at the Fulton County Government Center. The team's sponsor is Tamala Shanks.
