Potential residential and commercial revenues generated from the city’s proposed annexation could help keep City Schools Decatur’s millage rate at 20.5 through 2020, said Decatur school board chairman Bernadette Seals during an interview with the AJC.
CSD has estimated the first year after annexation could add $5.3 million to the system’s operating costs — paying for teachers, staff, supplies and transportation among others — and possibly increase by three percent each year thereafter. CSD lowered its millage earlier this year from the 2013 rate of 20.9 mills. But Seals said that without annexation it will probably go up to 21.5 mills.
