An inmate being transported through Georgia remained at large Thursday after escaping during a Wednesday night meal stop in Bartow County, authorities said.

Cartersville police Maj. Mark Camp said Sean Patrick Killion, 42, was being transported by a private company from Florida to Indiana on a federal drug charge when he escaped around 7 p.m.

The inmate shoved a guard and ran after the private prison transport van stopped outside a gas station for a restroom break shortly after stopping at a local Pizza Hut to pick up food, Cartersville police Lt. Rich Hawley told The Associated Press.

The female guard gave chase and caught up to the male prisoner, but he broke away after a struggle, Hawley said.

The guard was taken to a hospital for treatment of an injury, but Hawley said it doesn’t appear to be serious.

Camp said Killion, who has a history of escaping from custody, was supposedly shackled when he escaped.

He said at 7 a.m. Thursday that U.S. Marshals have taken over the case and have been looking for Killion for several hours.

Killion, who is 6-foot-1 and about 195 pounds, was last seen wearing faded blue jeans and a black T-shirt, Camp said.
