Hunter Biden agrees to pay child support to Arkansas woman

He will pay child support to the mother of his child beginning in February

Hunter Biden, son of Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden, agreed to pay child support to a woman who says he fathered her child in lieu of him facing a contempt trial, which was scheduled for this week.

On Jan. 22, a judge ordered Biden to appear in an Arkansas court for a hearing on whether he would be held in contempt for not disclosing his financial details to a woman who says she birthed his child, according to CNBC.

On Monday, an Independence County judge, who had been overseeing the paternity lawsuit, accepted Biden’s temporary agreement to pay child support. The 49-year-old lawyer and lobbyist will begin paying an undisclosed amount in February, according to court documents obtained by the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. He will also pay retroactive support and legal fees, by March 1, back to Nov. 1, 2018, to plaintiff Lunden Alexis Roberts.

“He’s doing the right thing by finally stepping up and paying what he should’ve been paying,” said Clint Lancaster, the attorney representing Roberts, on Sunday.

While the elder Biden has been enjoying strong poll numbers for his candidacy, Hunter Biden has been immersed in a paternity scandal. He initially denied having sex with Roberts, but after a DNA last year, it was confirmed he was the father of her child. Biden has three other children, and he is married to Melissa Cohen.

Monday’s agreement does not dismiss the contempt motions, according to the court documents. They will be dismissed if Biden provides all the documents the court has requested by March 1.
