A Douglas County sheriff’s deputy has served a one-day suspension without pay after department officials were notified that he had parked his patrol car in a handicapped parking spot.

Deputy Michael Beske was suspended for an eight-hour shift for parking his vehicle beside the Jiffy Lube on Highway 5 after a photo of the parked car was posted Sept. 26 on the sheriff’s office’s Facebook page, according to sheriff’s office spokesman Lt. Glenn Daniel.

“He made a mistake, and there’s no excuse for it,” Daniel said. “He messed up, and he was dealt with with his punishment of suspension.

“We have made it very clear that we’re here to serve the public and abide by the laws because we enforce the laws.”
