Investigators have determined the threat against Dawson County High School was not credible. But it was enough to get one-fourth of students to stay home Thursday.

School officials and the Dawson County Sheriff’s Office attribute the 250 absences to concerns about the threat, which was discussed on social media. Just over 1,000 students attend the school.

A student at the school allegedly made the threat, which was reported to the Sheriff’s Office.

"Many students expressed concern because the student said to have made the threat was extremely upset because his family will be moving," the Sheriff's Office posted on its Facebook page.

Students who attended school Thursday were only allowed to enter through the front door, where they were greeted by school employees and deputies. It was an otherwise normal day of school, the Sheriff’s Office said.
