The MARTA Five Points rail station was briefly shut down and evacuated during Thursday’s morning commute while authorities investigated a bomb threat that turned out not to be credible.

“In an abundance of caution, a southbound MARTA train at Five Points was held at the station at 8:40 a.m. in response to a bomb threat that has since proven unfounded,” MARTA spokeswoman Alisa Jackson said.

The station was evacuated, and rail service into the station from each direction was halted.

“After a thorough investigation by MARTA police, the train has been returned to service and normal rail operations at Five Points station resumed at 9 a.m.,” Jackson said in an email.
