A 5-year-old girl was abducted and sexually assaulted on Friday in DeKalb County, police said.

DeKalb police spokesman Maj. Stephen Fore said officers were first called about a child walking alone at the Value Mall at 5616 Memorial Drive about 4:30 p.m.

“The child reported that she had been picked up by an unknown male at the Clifton Glen Apartments and later dropped off on Memorial Drive,” Fore said.

When she was taken to the hospital for evaluation, evidence of sexual assault was discovered.

While officers were out with the child, a kidnapping was reported at the Clifton Glen Apartments on Hambrick Road. The victim’s 8-year-old brother reported the kidnapping to his mother, who contacted police, Fore said.

Officers and detectives developed a description of the man sought from witnesses in the area.

The man is described as in his early 20s with long hair tied into a ponytail and a long beard.

He is believed to be driving an early 2000’s model gray Hyundai hatchback.

If anyone has any information on the suspect or this incident they are urged to contact the DeKalb County Police Homicide/Assaults Unit at 770-724-7850.
