A former Cobb County schools bus driver has been indicted on 23 counts of endangering a child and one count of driving a school bus under the influence in a 2014 rear-end accident. .

Initially, James Douglas Gurr of Marietta was cited for misdemeanor DUI, following too closely and endangering a child by DUI.

Gurr, of Marietta, was transporting 23 elementary school children on Holly Springs Road in February 2014 and rear-ended a vehicle stopped at a traffic light at Sewell Mill Road, according to the arrest citation. It said Gurr was "flushed and had a slight odor of alcoholic beverage about his person."

Gurr was given a breath test at the scene and the results were higher than .08, the legal limit, but the citation did not indicate how much higher.

Gurr was released on bond from the Cobb County jail the same day he was arrested Feb. 4, 2014. He resigned from Cobb schools in lieu of termination two days later, according to district spokesman Jay Dillon.

No arraignment date has been set yet on the new charges, said Kim Isaza, spokeswoman for the Cobb district attorney’s office. The case was assigned to Cobb Superior Court Judge Lark Ingram.
