It was a pair of tornadoes that touched down in Coweta and Fulton counties, damaging the roofs of homes, a football stadium and bringing down trees and power lines, meteorologists confirmed Thursday.
But the intensity of the two tornadoes has not yet been determined, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Karen Minton said.
No one was injured when storms moved through the metro Atlanta area just before the evening commute Wednesday. Areas south of Atlanta were among the hardest hit, according to investigators.
In Coweta, homes on George Wynn Road were damaged when the storm rolled through around 5 p.m.
Jorge Rubio said his family was watching TV when the house began to shake.
“It didn’t give us no warning, no nothing,” Rubio said. “I wasn’t even sure it was a tornado because it was so fast.”
In south Fulton County, the football stadium was damaged at Creekside High School, Channel 2 reported. The goal posts were uprooted in one end zone, and the artificial turf was uprooted.
Worked continued throughout the day Thursday to clear trees from roadways. Fortunately, electricity had already been restored to the 9,000 Georgia Power customers who were in the dark during the height of the storm, according to the utility.
The good news: No more storms are in the forecast for the next several days, Minton said. Sunny skies should last through the weekend, but expect temperatures to drop, she said.
Sunday’s high temperature will reach only the upper 40s, Minton said.
