Officials with the Clayton County School District are reviewing safety protocols after an eighth-grader was found alone on a school bus Thursday after the morning route to school.
The girl, a student at North Clayton Middle School, was found slumped down in a seat by the driver during a routine walk-through at the district’s bus yard, according to Channel 2 Action News. She was taken to Southern Regional Medical Center, which is a few blocks away.
“For some reason, the child was exhibiting some kind of system or some kind of stress,” Vicki Constantinides, director of communications for Clayton County Public Schools, told Channel 2. “We need to make sure our students are safe when they’re in our care and seek medical assistance when we believe they need it.”
The girl was released from the hospital a short time later.
Constantinides said officials thus far have no reason to believe the bus driver did not follow school district protocols, but said they would be reviewing what happened to determine the appropriate actions. She added that officials also will be reviewing protocols in the wake of Thursday’s incident.
