A 70-year-old Carrollton man was killed in an early Saturday fire, the Carroll County coroner said.

Coroner Sammy Eady said the victim, Alvin Driver, was found in the living room of his home on Foster Street in the western part of the city. Driver was the only one in the home at the time of the fire, which was started in another part of the house and burned through the ceiling, the coroner said.

Firefighters were called to the home around 5 a.m. Eady said Driver was a widower who lived alone. His wife died about 2 years ago.

The fire fatality was the first in Carroll County this year.
