Canton police say the first week of their re-instituted downtown parking enforcement program resulted in 92 tickets issued.

Lt. Jeff Tucker said most of the citations were for overtime parking and double-parking along Main, North, Church and Marietta streets. Most of the spots along those streets have two-hour limits, to accommodate those visiting merchants and doing other business downtown.

The city had discontinued enforcement of the restrictions for some months due to manpower issues and a downtown parking study. Police handed out almost 1,300 warnings during a grace period which stretched from August to Nov. 10. Fines which kicked in at that point start at $10.
