The Atlanta Hawks are filling more than 900 new jobs for the newly renovated and transformed Philips Arena. Positions will include everything from jobs in guest services, housekeeping and security to bartenders and servers.

The massive hiring push will begin during the coming day by filling approximately 40 guest services captains roles. The process begins with 150 pre-screened candidates who been invited to a multi-location interview during the coming days that will include stops at the arena’s interactive preview sales center, the venue’s active construction zone and the Skyview Ferris Wheel. Each stop is designed to educate potential new hires on the extensive changes going on at the 20-year-old building and convey the fun and high-energy atmosphere of the workplace.
“We are determined to make the employee experience at Philips Arena as great as the guest experience,” said David Garcia, Vice President of Guest Experience in a press release. “Anyone can say that, but we want show it. This event is the first step in showing candidates how fun, exciting, and rewarding it will be to work at Philips Arena.”
Philips Arena, which underwent a $192.5 million renovation, recently announced fan-friendly food pricing which will be featured during each of the nearly-200 events at Philips Arena, including Atlanta Hawks games, concerts and shows, with a reach of almost two million fans annually.
Eleven of the arena’s most popular food and beverage items will be drastically reduced with an average price reduction of 50 percent. A $5 beer has been added to the menu as well as $1 chips, $3 hot dogs and $4 slices of pizza.
Many of the new jobs are designed to serve the newly renovated arena. For example, there will be be a doubling of the number of bartenders to accommodate more premium food and beverage areas. The overall workforce will be 500 to 700 larger than in past years, according to Garcia. Garcia said the Atlanta Hawks are also creating a new team called the “Service Recovery/Surprise & Delight team” which he said in an e-mail, will be “tasked with roving the building to resolve issues and create magical moments for fans.”
About the larger sized staff, Garcia said in an e-mail, will be “significantly larger because of the requirements of the new arena, our vision for providing world class customer service which requires more staff, and our desire to improve our employee experience which increases our pools so we can provide more flexibility.”
Job perks for arena staff include free parking, new break rooms with complimentary beverages and snacks, along with an employee loyalty rewards program. In addition to working Hawks homes games, the new employees can also work at other events at Philips including shows already scheduled for the arena -- Nicki Minaj and Future, Elton John, Drake and Migos, Justin Timberlake, Shawn Mendes and Fleetwood Mac.
