It’s been a fun and festive spring so far on Atlanta’s civic and philanthropic front.

The annual Tony Evening gala benefiting the Alliance Theatre was held May 16 at the Grand Hyatt in Buckhead. It was chaired by Georgia Ritchie with co-chair Liza McSwain. Jonathan Shapero and Tracie Arnold served as auction co-chairs; committee members included Kristin Rambo Adams, Erin Brown, Mary Hattaway, Rita Izaguirre and Jada Loveless.

The event featured a performance by Broadway star Caissie Levy and honored longtime Alliance supporters Margaret and Bob Reiser.

“When you do something you love, you don’t expect to be recognized for it,” a gracious Bob Reiser said. “The arts are our passion. Atlanta needs to be a great arts city.”

The annual Swan House Ball was held on the somewhat soggy grounds of the Swan House at the Atlanta History Center on April 18. The event was chaired by Mary Katherine Greene and Maggie Staton and honored Louise Staton Gunn and Pat Hartrampf of the Cherokee Garden Club and Peachtree Garden Club, respectively.

Following days upon days of rain, the heavens parted in time for the crowd, in ballgowns and dinner jackets, to tread carefully around the house and then into a magnificent (and dry) party tent where dinner was served.

Veneralia, the Michael C. Carlos Museum's annual fundraiser, was April 17 at Imperial Fez. It was chaired by Rebecca and Sidney Yarbrough III with patron chairs Reid Mizell and Bernard van der Lande and honored Sally and Jim Morgens. Following a delectable feast of Moroccan favorites, local art dealer and appraiser Spalding Nix hosted a live and lively auction before ceding the floor to belly dancing entertainers.

And congratulations to the newest members of the Society of Colonial Wars in the state of Georgia's Atlanta Chapter. Douglas DuBois Astrop, Stanley Gatewood Brading Jr., Matthew James Calvert, Alexander Lawrence Cann Jr., Quill Orme Healey, John Stephen Heard, Morgan Wimbish Murray Jr., George Lee Parson, Edmund Fay Pearce Jr. and Warren R. Pollard III were inducted at the organization's 45th Spring Assembly.

The event, held April 16 at the Piedmont Driving Club, honored Nan Marshall with the sixth annual Sims Bray Literary Award. Attendees recited the Pledge of Allegiance, sang both the national anthem and "God Save the Queen" and raised glasses to toast Her Majesty the Queen as part of the evening's festivities.
