Almost 120 students from Gwinnett County Public Schools recently earned Advanced Placement honors, according to a news release from the school district.

The AP Capstone Diploma, for students who earn passing scores of 3 or higher on AP Seminar, AP Research and four additional AP exams, went to 94 students from Gwinnett, according to the district. Another 25 students earned the AP Seminar and Research Certificate for passing the AP Seminar and AP Research exams.

AP Seminar and AP Research do not focus on one specific discipline. Students in those classes create research projects in topics of personal interest. Instead of a single year-end exam, students are assessed on group projects, presentations and essays throughout the year. They are graded on critical thinking, research, collaboration, time management and presentation skills.

“The students who earned the AP Capstone Diploma and AP Seminar and Research Certificate should be applauded for not only accepting the challenge and rigor of taking an AP course but for also taking their learning a step further and applying their learning through relevant research projects,” Superintendent Calvin Watts said in the news release. “This type of learning will serve them well as they continue their education at the postsecondary level.”

Of the AP Capstone Diploma recipients, 23 went to Mill Creek High School. Archer and Peachtree Ridge High Schools had 12 each.
