When you seek work in metro Atlanta, make sure to emphasize the key skills Atlanta managers say you need right now. Some are a matter of education or experience, but others are purely a matter of attitude.

Be a team player

"Atlanta has a lot of qualified job seekers, but ultimately the skill that all companies need in a candidate is being a team player," said Melinda Ottinger, office manager for ServPro of North Fulton County. "You would be shocked to see how many employees do not have this skill. Hiring managers know a company that does not have team players will suffer in productivity no matter the industry."

Be computer literate
E.J. Bacon, president and chief executive nurse at E. J. Bacon Nurse Careers Coach, said potential employers should be computer literate. "The employee of today must have some computer knowledge, a comfort level with computers and the aptitude to learn more about technology," she said. "Computers and technology are utilized in some form in almost all workplaces and employees have to be able to effectively use them."

Be flexible
Atlanta job seekers should be able to demonstrate both a willingness to multitask and to sometimes work past posted hours, according to Susan Prochnow, department manager for Furkids Animal Rescue and Shelter.

"You've got to be able to do more than just a narrow job description to get a good job or get the edge on an internal posting," she said. "And you need to demonstrate that you're not the first one out the door at the end of the day. It doesn't have to be an everyday thing, but you need the skill of occasionally working more than the typical schedule to take on a last-minute project or issue."
