Emily Piriz took a big chance singing an upbeat Jennifer Lopez song but she only highlighted the fact that she is no Jennifer Lopez.
Piriz to me always felt like she was play acting up there on stage. She was at best, a passable pretty pageant contestant with a decent voice but no star quality. Artistry? Not readily apparent.
So her departure is no surprise. There was no chance she was going to be saved either.
The bottom three were women again: Emily, MK Nobillette (again) and Jena Irene. I got two out of three right there.
For MK, it's just a matter of time. She cannot connect. I think Jena has a bit more potential and actually liked her performance last night.
Unfortunately, this is not a year for the ladies.
There appear to be only two women that are especially well liked in this group by fans so far: Jessica Meuse and Majesty Rose, with Majesty the only one with a realistic shot at winning.
Not that the guys are blowing people away. Sam Woolf, my early call to win, is a little rawer than I had anticipated. The country guys lack star power. Caleb Johnson, a pro on stage, could win at this point but is he really a star?
But for now, it's just eliminating the weakest links, without a lot of bloodshed or tears.
Harry Connick Jr. was tough Wednesday night, understandably. So he spent a lot of time defending himself. He thinks they're talented. He just wants them to be better and has only so much time as a judge to give them constructive criticism. If he were mentoring them, I bet they'd be much better. What is Randy Jackson really adding to the equation?
Good news for me: I called it again. I'm two for two. The poll we took yesterday indicated people disliked MK the most but this is about gaining votes not receiving the fewest votes. Clearly, MK has a bigger fan base than Emily. We were also clued in when they showed early voting volume the first hour and Emily was way at the bottom.
