Cynthia Bailey of "The Real Housewives of Atlanta" said she is definitely divorcing her husband of six years Peter Thomas.
For anyone following RHOA news the past few months, this isn't a surprise. They had drifted apart, especially after he closed Bar One in Grant Park and moved to Charlotte to oversee a bar up there. Despite a brief rapprochement after they took a trip to Jamaica, they couldn't resolve their issues. She acknowledged to Bravo's Andy Cohen during the reunion show earlier this year that they were basically living apart.
A few weeks ago, she said they were separating. Now she said she's taking the next step and plans to divorce him after six years of marriage.
"I don't want it to be an ugly divorce because I still love Peter. I just don't want to be married to Peter anymore," she told E! in an exclusive interview. She admitted she hadn't even seen him face to face in five months.
They both have said they love each other but that alone hasn't been enough to keep them together. Thomas on the show seemed to have a hard time communicating with her, often not telling her about key business decisions that impacted both of them. Other times, he could be quite romantic.
Although they had talked about moving Bar One to Sweet Auburn Ave. in 2014, that project has not come to fruition.
With "Real Housewives" in production now, the fallout from the possible divorce will play out this upcoming ninth season.
I reached out to Thomas, who actually answered his phone but said he was on a plane and would call me back once he lands. I left a text message with Terrence Staunton, who has helped run Bailey's modeling agency but have not heard back. He's my closest contact to Bailey.
