Tonight was a whirlwind of the rest of the group songs. We ended up hearing at least a bit of 18 of the top 24, based on the spoilers. (The other six we saw last Thursday.)
Yes, the editors wanted to make sure everybody has been represented.
If someone got short shrift, it was for good reason. You'll likely never see them again anyway.
Some "drama" was trimmed down significantly from how they would have been played in the early years e.g. forgotten lyrics, someone not wanting to be on a particular team, an overly zonked singer who was trying to channel his inner Corey Clark. We heard a lot more music than we have in the past at this stage. If the point is about the best singers, this was a smart move.
But it was a lot to take in. I'm looking forward to solos tomorrow.
Anyway, here's the run down.
Alexis recovers for "Sal's Gals." But their take of Train's "Drive By" was kind of lifeless and all over the place. Alexis was especially a mess, just overwrought with notes flying everywhere. But somehow she made it through, along with Jax. Sal is out.
Three to One Girls. Emily Brooke has food poisoning. She struggles at times but manages to get through "With A Little Help From My Friend", along with Riley Bria and Keri Lynn Roche. They all make it through.
Blvd. ("Since U Been Gone") Cody Fry , Rayvon Owen, Piper Jones and the poor fourth gal all make it through. It was a risky take but it worked. Cody and Rayvon were especially good.
Vital Signs. The next group is a mixed bag with "I Want You Back." Cindy Maslov and Adanna Duru make it through.
One group gets fully eliminated.
LKYCO (Ladies Keep Your Clothes On) ("Story of My Life") Daniel Seavey, Quaasim Middleton, Savion Wright and Trevor Douglas work it hard and are really strong. Of course, they are on to the next round.
Alexis Gomez and Lauren Lott and Quentin Alexander are all featured momentarily and make it to the next round. Hmm.. future top 24 material?
Hollywood Anderson, Laurel Taunton and Amber Kelechi ("Grenade') are featured in the next group. Hollywood, despite flirting too much and not getting enough sleep, makes it through.
Jess Lamb and Lovey James cruise through with "All About That Bass."
Tanya McKenna and street musician Rocky Peter are featured next. Only Tanya makes the cut.
Heatherle Spires tries to cut out of her group. She wasn't bad vocally but just had a negative energy about her and didn't make it next. The other three - Erika David, Sarina-Joi Crowe (the best of the lot) and Adrianna Simon do.
The next crew ("With a Little Help From My Friends") features Zac Brown lookalike Mark Andrew, Vanessa Andrew, Katherine Winston, and Alex Shier. Vanessa is the only one who doesn't make it.
A bunch of folks identified only by first name come and go. Clearly, none are people we should care to remember.
We hear Jackie Nese and Maddie Walker sing. Jackie doesn't make it. But Maddie does.
Blind dude Garrett Miles ("Done") didn't quite make the cut, unfortunately. He didn't quite have the energy this time around.
Joey Cook, Shannon Berthiaume and Naomi Tatsuoka are given airtime for "Somebody to Love." They are all very distinctive but harmonize well. Although Joey missed the words, she improvised well and all make it to the solo round.
Here are some videos from Thursday's solo round episode to tide you over:
Quentin Alexander: performing "Rip Tide":
And this is Atlanta's Loren Lott covering Adele's "Skyfall" and she gets a standing ovation from JLo.
