It's Donald Trump day in Atlanta.
The presumptive Republican nominee's Georgia sojourn includes a noon rally at the Fox Theater, preceded by a private fundraiser with major GOP donors at the Atlanta estate of businessman and philanthropist Charlie Loudermilk. But notably missing today will be David Perdue, one of the event's co-hosts and Trump's most prominent Peach State surrogate.
Perdue said he could not make the fundraiser because of the unfolding skirmish over water wars language in a federal spending bill currently being considered on the Senate floor. His office circulated this statement explaining his absence:
"Wish I could be at the event to welcome Mr. Trump to the Peach State, unfortunately the United States Senate is debating critical legislation right now that could negatively impact Georgia's water supply. Georgians sent me to the Senate to fight for their priorities, especially when career politicians are pushing their personal agendas in Washington. Donald Trump offers us the best opportunity to change the direction of our country, and I will do everything I can to get him elected. I hope this will be a successful event and look forward to working together to make America great again."
Gov. Nathan Deal is the fundraiser's other co-chair. A spokeswoman for the governor said he'll be there today.
The event is aimed at growing Trump's campaign coffers and Georgia rolodex as the billionaire turns his attention to the general election.
