Word spread like wildfire Monday that Bernie Sanders was going to make an unplanned speech to his supporters early this afternoon.
By noon, 30 minutes before the address, police have stopped letting anyone up to the Grand Ballroom of the Philadelphia Convention Center as the massive room was at capacity.
Still, several hundred more Sanders supporters are gathered in the marble-floored atrium in hopes of getting in.
We already know one group that won't be in the room to hear Sanders: the media. The session is specifically closed press, meaning no one with a media badge is getting in. Never fear: We have a friendly Sanders source promising to supply video later.
What Sanders is going to say we don't know. But many, especially on the side of Hillary Clinton, hope her former foe will urge his supporters to ease off the rhetoric that has threatened to derail the Democratic National Convention before it even gets started.
The scandal over the hacked DNC emails shows absolutely no sign of abating as this morning's events at the Georgia and Florida delegation breakfasts showed. Sanders supporters here outside the ballroom moments ago chanted. "We know her, we know her," an apparent riff on Clinton's unofficial slogan, "I'm with her."
