Thursday sees members of the House and Senate budget committees winding down their review of Gov. Nathan Deal’s revised spending plan for the current fiscal year. The House and Senate convene at 10 a.m.
Sen. Greg Kirk, R-Americus, will hold a press to discuss details of his First Amendment Defense Act, a measure that mirrors proposed federal legislation. He may have backed off provisions that would protect public employees who object to same sex marriage on religious grounds. It is one of several so-called religious liberty bills pending before lawmakers.
At 2 p.m., Rob Rhodes, director of projects for the Georgia Appleseed Center for Law & Justic,e will present the House Judiciary committee with the center’s newly released report on law enforcement and citizen encounters, as well as its recommendations for policy changes. Earlier this month, the non-partisan center issued its report and recommendations that included repealing the state law that allows police officers special grand jury privileges in use-of-force cases
