A group of demonstrators demanding U.S. Sen. David Perdue hold a traditional town hall meeting has scheduled a protest Tuesday outside a Brookhaven office park where he is set to deliver a speech.
The #ResistTrumpTuesdays group has rallied every Tuesday for 12 weeks outside Perdue's downtown Atlanta office calling on him to hold an in-person town hall meeting.
This week, though, they are moving their demonstration to a spot across the street from Perdue's appearance and bringing lawn chairs, signs and food. They're calling it a "Perdue Didn't Invite Us to Lunch" moment.
The demonstration is part of a wave of national protests that have rocked GOP events since Trump's inauguration, including public appearances held by Republican congressmen even in deeply conservative bastions.
In February, protesters turned a low-profile event with junior congressional staffers into a stand against Donald Trump's policies. And groups have more recently launched "Have You Seen Him" billboards plastered with Perdue's face in Atlanta, Savannah and near Perdue's home in Sea Island.
Perdue's office said he has no town hall meeting on the books during the two-week recess but said it has a raft of other events planned, including a visit to the site of the I-85 bridge collapse and meetings with law enforcement officials and medical leaders.
