You'll remember that, just yesterday, we told you of the Paulding County judge whose daughter signed up to run against him.

We posited that this might be a maneuver to allow Superior Court Judge James R. Osborne to bequeath his bench seat to his offspring, Elizabeth Osborne Williams.

Well, what we said would happen, now has. Here’s the judge’s withdrawal of candidacy, which lasted all of a week:

His daughter is now the only candidate to replace her father. From today's Fulton County Daily Report:

Williams said she and her father discussed his decision to qualify to run for re-election as an incumbent even though he planned to leave the bench. "He just wanted to give me the best opportunity to serve in the position and work in the community," she said.

Williams said she decided several weeks ago to run for her father's post. She said that when she and her father discussed his intention to retire, "I thought it was a great opportunity, and I thought I would work hard and do a good job as a superior court judge."

“Further affiant sayeth naught,” quoth the affidavit.

But this may not be the last word on the matter. Spokesman Jared Thomas said the arrangement is being examined to see what options Secretary of State Brian Kemp might have. Neither would it surprise us to see the Judicial Qualifications Commission asking a few questions.
