Newt Gingrich quieted a packed hall at Kennesaw State University on Monday with a call for prayers for Hillary Clinton.
"Take a little time to include in your prayers Secretary Clinton," Gingrich said as he opened a town hall event for Donald Trump's campaign. "She's not our enemy. I was a little concerned yesterday."
"Yesterday" was a reference to Clinton's early exit from a New York 9/11 ceremony and the campaigns later admission that she had been diagnosed with pneumonia two days earlier. It was a calamitous moment in the campaign that led even The Washington Post to declare Clinton's health a major issue in the campaign.
Gingrich said the Trump campaign wants to face a healthy opponent.
"We want to defeat her fairly and honestly," he said to cheers.
The former Georgia congressman, former U.S. House speaker and 2012 candidate for president then carried several hundred Trump supporters on a 40-minute lesson on the ways Clinton is wrong for America with some declarations of why Trump would be a superior choice.
"Georgia is a key battleground in this fight," Gingrich said. "We have an obligation to go out to all our fellow citizens and make sure they understand how big the gap is. You believe in the Second Amendment and the right to own guns, you have to be for Trump. Believe in economy based on hard work … you have to be for Trump.
"You go down the list. We have to make sure that every Georgian understands how really serious the choice is."
