Augusta – Sen. Johnny Isakson did something rather unusual to kick off the two-day Georgia Republican Convention in Augusta: He avoided mention of both Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, the two most popular topics at the conclave.

Instead, he hearkened back more than three decades to a Ronald Reagan slogan. Here’s the guts of his brief speech:

"We need a renaissance, we need an awakening. We need a new day in America. We need a Ronald Reagan morning in America.

"And that's only going to happen if one thing happens – if we lock arms together, you and I united, and support our party and support our ticket and elect a Republican president of the United States this November.

"Together we can do anything. Divided we lose. It's happened the last two presidential elections, and we can't afford it to let it happen again."
