The icy weather that paralyzed north Georgia may be just a fading memory to some, but Democrat Jason Carter wants to make sure you don't forget it as election day nears.

The Atlanta state senator's new ad reminds viewers of that Jan. 28 gridlock that created nightmarish commutes, trapped students in schools, and turned interstates to parking lots after the near-simultaneous release of thousands of students and office workers on untreated streets overwhelmed work crews.

"Nathan Deal didn't just fail our children in the snowstorm," says the 30-second ad, which then pivoted to the Democrat's education platform.

The governor got a do-over of sorts a few weeks later when another wave of icy weather pounded Georgia. That time, there was a more proactive response that has involved frequent press conferences, sweeping emergency orders and a staggered release of state workers hours before the first snowflake even fell.

Here's the transcript of Carter's 30-second ad, coming soon to a TV screen near you:

But Nathan Deal didn't just fail our children in the snowstorm. He's failing them every day in our schools.

Shortchanging education by $4 billion. 9,000 fewer teachers in the classroom. 80,000 fewer HOPE recipients.

Nathan Deal's failure in the snowstorm is now a painful memory. But our children will be paying for his failures in education for a long time.
