Get ready for a new wave of Brian Kemp ads.

The GOP candidate for governor, whose provocative ads helped earn him a runoff date against Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle, has purchased $1 million worth of ads in the runup to the July 24 contest.

The secretary of state’s campaign said he’s snapped up broadcast airtime in metro Atlanta and other major markets, along with Fox News spots statewide. That includes the Columbus market, where the campaign hadn’t previously aired TV ads.

It wasn't immediately clear how much Cagle has spent on TV, but he has a sizable fundraising advantage. He's aired at least two TV ads since the May primary – one featured an older voter chastising a Kemp lookalike from his rocking chair - and a pro-Cagle outside group has purchased $250,000 worth of ads.

Kemp hasn't unveiled his ad yet, but it will be the latest in a string of TV salvos between the fierce rivals. And you can assume that the secretly-recorded audio of Cagle acknowledging he backed "bad public policy" to hurt a rival will come up.

Two of his previous ads helped catapult him to a second-place finish in the crowded GOP race for governor – and earned him heaps of media attention.

The first was a 30-second spot showing him brandishing a gun next to a nervous young man who was trying to court his daughter.

The other featured explosions, guns, a chainsaw – and a boast that he has a big pickup truck "just in case I need to round up criminal illegals and take 'em home myself."

Stay tuned.
