Out in Denver, former President Bill Clinton – with Mayor Kasim Reed at his side – announced this evening that CGI America, the domestic policy arm of the Clinton family foundation, would hold its annual gathering in Atlanta next June.
From the press release:
The multi-day event is policy heavy. The current conference finishes today. A sample of the dialogue, from the Denver Post:
Despite lower unemployment and an economy that's strong overall, millions still can't find work, Clinton said on the first full day of the Clinton Global Initiative America conference. Still others are too underemployed or underpaid to support their families.
Beyond insufficient job-skills training to adapt to the changing economy, he suggested another reason.
"Maybe a lot of it is because we're not maximizing the potential we have with the capital that's been accumulated, invested in the wisest possible way," Clinton said.
But the political implications are impossible to ignore. Atlanta’s landing of the CGI America gathering also means the Clinton family will have a heavy Georgia presence just after, presumably, the nomination process is complete.
Though the Republican and Democratic national conventions won’t be held until July, both parties would like to have already started their general election campaigns by next June.
If Hillary Clinton’s plans succeed, she’ll be the Democratic nominee. And June could provide an opportunity to juice the Democratic vote in Georgia.
