Outside of those changing speed limits on I-285, today's general hype will be devoted to the fact that today is the last day to register for the Nov. 4 general election.

In other words, the field of voters will be set in stone. In May, Georgia voters numbered roughly 5 million. The big question: Have Georgia Democrats recruited enough new voters to beat their traditional mid-term blues?

The major campaigns today should begin releasing the top lines of their fundraising reports for the third quarter of the year, a good measure of how much cash they'll have to play with in the final 28 days before the last ballots are cast.

Note that those same campaigns are likely to withhold the identities of their contributors until the last allowable moment.

If Gov. Nathan Deal’s numbers are as good as his supporters have been hinting, the Republican incumbent will be among the first to release the figures.

His Democratic opponent, state Sen. Jason Carter, will visit the Little Scholars Academy in College Park, read to a class, and discuss the state of early education – marking Pre-K Week in Georgia.

Deal and first lady Sandra have scheduled a 1 p.m. press conference in the state Capitol. The emphasis, carried over from last week, will be on drumming up support among women voters.

In the same hour, but in a different Capitol location, U.S. Reps. John Lewis, David Scott, and Hank Johnson, and state Rep. Stacey Abrams and the Rev. Raphael Warnock,  senior pastor at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, will hold a press conference. The topic is voter registration.

Republican Senate hopeful David Perdue heads to the White House Restaurant in Atlanta at 1:15 p.m. to meet with a small business owner and the press.
