A day after President Obama spoke out on the need to reduce gun violence, Democrats in Congress joined his effort, pressing Republicans to set up a special committee on the issue, as the President said it's time for supporters of gun controls to be more aggressive on the matter.
"We've got to change the politics of this," the President said at a White House event where he took questions from reporters.
"I will politicize it, because our inaction is a political decision that we are making," Mr. Obama added.
In his remarks, the President jabbed at the National Rifle Association, while also tipping his hat at their lobbying efforts, as he all but said gun control supporters were getting out worked by the NRA.
"You got to give them credit; they're very effective," the President said, before delivering a verbal blast at the NRA.
"Because they don't represent the majority of the American people," he said of the NRA.
Minutes after the President finished his remarks, House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi issued a letter to Speaker John Boehner, not only asking for action on gun legislation, but also the creation of a special panel on gun violence.
"We must not accept the horror of gun violence as routine," Pelosi wrote in her letter to Boehner.
