GHSF Daily asked Georgia head coaches to answer these four questions. We'll report from a different head coach each day.
Craig Melton, Union Grove
1. What is the most memorable game you've been a part of as a player or coach? "In 2012, I was the defensive coordinator at Locust Grove High School, and we came back from a 31-0 deficit midway through the second quarter to beat Dutchtown High School. We tied the game at 31 early in the fourth quarter. They made it 34-31 with a field goal late, and we answered with a touchdown to make it 37-34. They drove down the field and missed a game-tying field goal as the kick hit the upright. It was a pretty incredible football game."
2. Which high school coach would you want your son to play for, and why? "Both of my coaching mentors, Mike McDonald at Newnan High School and Clint Satterfield at Locust Grove High School, are great men first and good football coaches second who care about kids and making players do the right thing. I would love it if my son played for either of these men."
3. What is your pet peeve as a coach or favorite saying/motto? "I really like a quote that I read on Twitter a few weeks ago by a famous coach: 'If you do enough small things right, then big things will happen.' My pet peeve is players moving slowly from drill to drill at practice."
4. Which GHSA policy or high school football rule would you most like to see changed? "I would like to have a spring scrimmage with another school. I think that one in the spring and then one prior to the season beginning in August would be great."
