Chris Slade, Pace Academy
1. What is the real difference-maker in winning and losing in Georgia high school football? "If you can run the football successfully and stop the run, you give your team a good chance to win a lot of football games."
2. Which player that you've coached is memorable mostly for his character or inspiration? "The players that come to mind that I coached have to be Jack Walsh and Jean Luc Brown. They played almost every position on the field expect QB. They never complained or worried about 'me.' They were not the big-name player or the most athletic. Just worked hard and always thought about the team. That eventually led to our state championship in 2015."
3. What is the best atmosphere for a high school game that you've experienced away from home? "The best atmosphere coaching was at Fitzgerald High School. Great fan support."
4. As a player or coach at any level, which game do you wish you could play again? "My sophomore year while at Virginia, the 1990 game vs. Georgia Tech. We were ranked number No. 1 in the country. Tech was No. 8. Great game. We lost 41-38 on a last-second field goal. Tech went on to win the national title. It still bothers me 27 years later!"
