GHSF Daily asked Georgia head coaches to answer these four questions. We'll report from a different head coach each day.
Korey Mobbs, Lanier
1. Who is/was the most influential person in your coaching career? "Billy Wells, who started Lanier's program. He left this summer to take the AD job at North Hall. I coached with coach Wells my entire career up until this year - five years at Collins Hill, four at Lanier. He taught me how to go about doing things the right way in regards to running a football program. He believed it and always said, 'We are going to do what is best for our kids.'"
2. Who is the best Georgia player you ever faced? "Bradley Roby, Peachtree Ridge. I remember game-planning for him while at Collins Hill. I'll never forget watching him on film score on a pass reception, fumble recovery, punt return and interception all in the same game." [Roby played at Ohio State and is now a cornerback for the Denver Broncos.]
3. What is the best team you ever faced as a coach? "Peachtree Ridge 2008. Roby and Kevin Minter were both tremendous players and are playing in the NFL as first- and second-round picks. Very impressive team."
4. If you were Gary Phillips, the new head of the GHSA, what would be the first rule that you would try to change? "I think it would be neat to see the state championships back on high school campuses and allow the semifinals to be played in the Georgia Dome. This would give more kids the opportunity to experience the Georgia Dome and at the same time keep the 'Friday night' environment for state championships."
