GHSF Daily asked Georgia head coaches to answer these four questions. We'll report from a different head coach each day.
Rico Zackery, Central (Carrollton)
1. Who is/was the most influential person in your coaching career?"There have been a few that have influenced me greatly, but the one that stands out is Grant Chesnut [whom Zackery succeeded at Central. Chesnut is now offensive coordinator at Kennesaw State.] He showed me how to run a program and how to get the best of your players on a daily basis. He showed us as a staff how to coach the right way and still be able to get your point across."
2. Who is the best Georgia player you ever faced?"Josh Harvey-Clemons, Lowndes. He could play anything on the field." (Note: Zackery was an assistant coach at Colquitt County before coming to Central.)
3. What is the best team you ever faced as a coach? "South Panola (Mississippi) 2010. They had weapons at every position."
4. If you were Gary Phillips, the new head of the GHSA, what would be the first rule that you would try to change?"I would start padded practices a little earlier. With school starting earlier in some places, some aren't able to do two-a-days as much as others."
