For the fourth installment of Throwback Thursday, as we present a series of Georgia Tech items that are in the possession of the College Football Hall of Fame, we’ve got another unusual artifact – a portrait of Georgia Tech coaching great Bobby Dodd.
The piece was done by Ted Watts. When the museum was in South Bend, Ind., hall of fame curator and historian Kent Stephens said, Watts was commissioned to do a number of drawings, including a gallery of Heisman Trophy winners.

On a related note, I was very pleased to see that the work of my colleague, AJC political cartoonist Mike Luckovich, is featured in the new building. Luckovich, who won the 1995 and 2006 Pulitzer Prize for editorial cartooning, drew a mural of coaching greats, including Dodd, along with famous quotes ascribed to them.
Week three: Game ball from 1956 season
Week two: 1991 Kickoff Classic tankard
