Georgia State center Gabe Mobley, recently named to the Rimington Award Watch List, continues the “Less than a minute with” series.

Mobley started the season’s last 12 games as a redshirt freshman and should start this year’s season opener against Ball State at the Georgia Dome.

Q: How’s the offseason going?

A: It’s going pretty good. Coach Holsopple’s been working us out pretty good. It’s good to get out here and get a little bit of football work in.

Q: What’s the biggest area of strength in which you’ve improved?

A: I feel like my legs are getting stronger. I didn’t squat a lot in high school because I had a little bit of knee problems, but since I had that knee surgery my freshman year I’ve been getting back and better and stronger.

Q: What are you squatting?

A: We don’t do a whole lot of maxing, we just do working sets. It’s a little bit light. While I was home I was doing sets with 405 five times.

Q: What do you weigh?

A: 280, 283.

Q: What’s the goal?

A: I want to get around 290. If I keep eating I’ll get up there.

Q: How much more comfortable do you feel this offseason compared to last offseason?

A: You never want to be comfortable because that means complacency, but I feel better with how everything’s going into the season knowing that we can do it because we’ve done it before. We just need to keep working hard.

Q: From your position, what are you trying to work on mentally in the game this summer?

A: I’m just trying to get where I can understand the defenses better. I know them pretty decently already, but I want to be up there so I can make more of the calls instead of relying on the quarterback sometimes.
