For 3-star cornerback Baylen Buchanan, UGA's Dawg Night camp was a chance to compete.
Along the way, he also got an opportunity to see what a future at Georgia might look like. Buchanan praised the coaching prowess of UGA defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt, who he said he’s always thought was a good coach but he really enjoyed the way Pruitt “coached up” his players.
Buchanan identified working with Pruitt, as well as the opportunity to compete in the one-on-ones, as the highlight of his night.
While Buchanan didn’t get an opportunity at the camp to specifically talk with Pruitt or head coach Mark Richt about his interest in the Bulldogs, he did say that he planned to call the coaches Sunday evening to discuss it.
For now, nothing has changed with the status of the 5-foot-11, 170-pounder out of Peachtree Ridge and his commitment to Louisville following Saturday night’s Dawg Night.
“I like Louisville,” Buchanan told the AJC. “I’m still committed there.
“I love the coaching staff. I love coach (Bobby) Petrino. I have a good relationship with coach Petrino and coach (Todd) Grantham and coach (Terrell) Buckley and I trust them and they’re great coaches. We’ll see in the end.”
While Buchanan is committed, he’s classified as a “soft” commitment and still hasn’t decided where he’ll be attending college. He says that “he’ll seriously consider” every school that offers him.
He also hasn’t pinned down exactly where he will be taking his official visits, but didn’t rule UGA out as a possibility.
“I haven’t planned my officials yet,” Buchanan said. “I don’t know yet, we’ll see.”
Buchanan did say that he had originally planed to have his decision made before the start of the high school football season but that now he think’s he’ll “narrow it down” sometime mid season.
While he’s a Louisville commit now, his status as a legacy recruit, following his dad Ray who attended Louisville in the early ’90s and went on to have a 12-year NFL career, won’t guarantee that he’s wearing Cardinals red come 2016.
“He (father Ray Buchanan) doesn’t want me to feel like I have to live up to his hype,” Buchanan said. “He tells me what path I pick he’s going to support me 100 percent, stuff like that.”
