What's new: After getting all 607 of his at-bats in the No. 3 hole last year, Freddie Freeman opened 2015 in the fourth spot in the Braves' order. That gives an indication both of the lack of protection the Braves have to hit behind him (rookie catcher Christian Bethancourt batted fifth in the opener) as well as the speedy options ahead of him. No. 2 hitter Jace Peterson and No. 3 Nick Markakis worked it to perfection with singles in their first at-bats as Braves on Monday to score the Braves' first run of the season. Alberto Callaspo got the opening-day start at third base over Chris Johnson, despite Johnson's 7-for-15 success against Monday's Marlins starter Henderson Alvarez. Manager Fredi Gonzalez said he planned to play Johnson, who had started on opening day his first four seasons in the big leagues, Wednesday and Thursday against the Marlins. Johnson hit .236 (13-for-55) in spring training as he worked on an adjustment to lower his hands.
