Gadson-Hines, who was first elected to serve on the school board in 2006, has served for the last 18 years. She has served over four consecutive terms between 2006 and 2022.
Gadson-Hines taught in the district for 32 years before running for a seat on the school board. She said it is time for a young person to run for the position and bring new ideas.
"It's time for me to come home and do a little bit of retirement stuff for real," she said.
According to Facebook, Theresa Watson and Treye Burrison have announced they are running for the District 5 seat. Rev. Paul Smith of Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church will also be running for the seat.
