Former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher has died of a stroke, several news organizations are reporting.

The BBC said Thatcher, 87, suffered a stroke.

Thatcher was Britain's first and only female prime minister, serving from 1979 to 1990. As head of the Conservative Party and a staunch ally of President Ronald Reagan, she was called the "Iron Lady" for her political toughness.
