On a boy's 20th birthday, he becomes a man. For one Japanese teen, being a man included paying his parents rent and not driving drunk.

Yuma Hasegama posted a photo on Twitter of a neatly wrapped letter that he received recently from his parents on his 20th birthday, Newser reports. But inside the letter were a string of responsibilities that his parents expect from the teen now that he has "become a man."

According to a translation by RocketNews24, the letter said "As of October 4, 2015, your father, Yoshikazu Hasegawa, and mother, Chiaki Hasegawa, have completed their duties of raising their child: you, Yuma Hasegawa. Going forward, please become a proper and responsible member of society, like your father and mother."

The letter also contained a bullet list with outlines of rules he should follow to function in society such as “pay his pension, not drive intoxicated, and discuss any future possible wife with (his parents) or else they wouldn’t ‘emotionally accept her.’” They also asked that he pay rent if he would be living at home and that if he wanted to get a loan from either parent, he should expect interest to be attached.

Newser added that according to Yuma, his parents were just joking around and didn’t expect him to pay rent and that he is helping out with expenses around the house.
