An accused burglar got more than he bargained for when a homeowner caught the man in the act.
The 68-year-old man used a wooden bow and arrow to defend his property.
The BBC reported that the alleged burglar stole cash and car keys, among other items from the house in Sydney, Australia on Sunday.
The thief then had his sights set on the man's car. But the owner shot the thief either in the buttocks or lower back as he jumped over a fence to get to his getaway car.
Officials are not sure how severe the burglar's injuries were.
In New South Wales, self-defense isn't a full legal defense if someone is using force to protect their property or trying to prevent someone from trespassing, the BBC reported.
Police are investigating both the break-in and the shooting of the burglar.
