Mueller's whereabouts were unknown until now — some thought he'd escaped. But a German historian says his research shows the Nazi leader's body is buried in a mass grave at a Jewish cemetery. (Via WWLP)

"From my point of view, no doubt, no mystery, Heinrich Mueller is dead and buried at the cemetery [inaudible -- name of cemetery.]" (Via WAVE)

That cemetery is now a memorial site. Mueller was last seen in Adolf Hitler’s bunker in Berlin the day after he committed suicide, and some said he fled to South America.

But the historian says Mueller died in the final days of the war in 1945 — citing evidence including a death certificate he discovered and testimony from a gravedigger who remembered burying someone in a general's uniform. (Via euronews)

There is no DNA evidence, and Jewish religious rules forbid exhumations. Mueller’s whereabouts have been one of the war’s great mysteries, with Nazi hunters searching for him for years. Their search was made difficult by the fact that Heinrich Mueller is a common name.

This new evidence has been met with skepticism, because Nazi war criminals have been known to fake their deaths. (Via German Federal Archive)

But the chairman of the Central Council of Jews in Germany said if it’s true...

"The fact that one of the most brutal Nazi sadists is buried in a Jewish cemetery of all places is a distasteful monstrosity …" (Via Spiegel)
