Did your alma mater rank among the world's top 1,000 universities? Five Georgia colleges and universities did.

Analysts from the Center for World University Rankings (CWUR) examined eight objective indicators to rank the world's top 1,000 universities, including quality of education, alumni employment, influence, patents, faculty quality and more.

The 2016 list measures both the quality of education and student training as well as the prestige of faculty members and their research without depending on university submissions or surveys.

In order of rank, these are the five Georgia colleges that made the cut: Emory University (79), Georgia Institute of Technology (86), University of Georgia (204), Augusta University (462) and Georgia State University (487).

Emory University climbed from its No. 84 spot in CWUR's 2015 ranking. Georgia State also moved up the list from last year—from No. 509 to No. 487.

However, rivals Georgia Tech and the University of Georgia both fell six spots in this year's rankings.

Recently, Emory University, Georgia Tech and UGA were listed among the top 25 colleges in the South in a region-specific ranking by Forbes, part of its larger 2016's best colleges and universities in the country ranking.

Last year, Georgia Tech and Emory also made the 2015-16 Times Higher Education list of top 100 best universities in the world.

The University of Georgia was previously included in the top schools with the best professors alongside Emory and just last year, UGA ranked eighth in the country among the country's top party schools in the Princeton Review's annual college rankings.
