Twitter’s Jack Dorsey donating $1 billion to coronavirus relief, other aid efforts

Stock Markets Surge as Infections Approach Peak Levels U.S. officials have warned this week could be the 'hardest and saddest' of the COVID-19 outbreak. Still, both U.S. and global stock markets soared Monday as investors graspoverseas progress against the coronavirus.

In a move that could be the largest individual donation given to coronavirus relief, Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey is giving $1 billion of his personal fortune to his philanthropic fund, Start Small.

Dorsey, who also heads up Square, his digital payments Group, said Start Small, an LLC, would begin from his equity in Square because “I own a lot more Square.”

The contribution represents about 28% of Dorsey’s overall wealth.

Dorsey said after the pandemic ends, the fund would focus on health and education for girls and “universal basic income” efforts.

The fund has already pledged $100,000 to America’s Food Fund launched by Laurene Powell Jobs, the widow of Steve Jobs, and actor Leonardo DiCaprio.

Dorsey’s net worth is estimated at about $3 billion.
